Where nature meets technology

For over a century the impressive steel Müngsten Viaduct has spanned one of the most beautiful sections of the River Wupper. Despite its awesome dimensions the bridge does not feel bulky. On the contrary, it is rather filigree, seeming to float as it merges effortlessly into its surroundings.

At the foot of the bridge lies the Müngsten Viaduct park, a peaceful yet vibrant location in the midst of woodland and a nature protection area. Despite being far from noisy traffic the park is easy to reach. Picnickers, sunbathers and games players are more than welcome here! There are continually changing views of the monumental bridge: from the meadow below, from the river banks, and from the viewing platform on the water. And if you want to explore the surrounding woodland you can easily reach the other side of the river on an unusual “hanging ferry”. The reddish brown colour of Müngsten House at the entrance to the park shines out to welcome visitors. Its façade is made of weather-resistant engineering steel. Despite its unique design it matches the landscape perfectly. Here you can sit back and relax with a wonderful view of the viaduct. If you prefer a bit more activity, you can try your hand at solving the Müngsten Riddle. There’s also a play and exercise trail suitable for all ages.
